Can Hydro Flask – Vacuum Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle keep the drink icy cold on these hot summer days? How about using it in the winter? Can it keep tea and cocoa piping hot?
Holding these 3 questions, I have used it in the past few days and recorded the details. Finally, I write this HydroFlask review.
I have tried three other brands of water bottles last year, but I am very picky about the smell and taste, so I throw them away.
Then, this time I found the Hydro Flask wide mouth water bottle. Not an optimist. So I was surprised as it was much better than I expected.

Part 1. Hydro Flask Review (Personal Test)
What I value most in the test is its insulation capacity. Secondly, I also pay attention to the smell of the water bottle and the taste of the drink it holds.
Guest what? Now I’m so into it.
#1 Pros and Cons
Preferred Advantages:
- Keep the beverage cold or hot for hours (the ice I put in was still there after 24 hours).
- No metal or plastic smell. And the taste is clean and crisp.
- The bottle mouth is wide enough to easily add ice cubes.
- Large capacity but lightweight; it’s great to take around with
You May Not Like:
- Hand wash only (Tip: easier to clean with hot water and soap)
- You need to make sure the hat is tightened
- The price of Hydro Flasks is a little bit high. (although well worth the money)
#2 What Did I Do to Test Hydro Flask
Scene 1. The night before, I put ice water into the Hydro Flask and left it in the kitchen. After 24 hours, I opened it and found ice floating on the water.
Scene 2. It was a family day. I poured ice americano in it and take it to the beach. One day passed, and at night the ice was not completely melted.
Scene 3. I put fresh orange juice with ice in the bottle and hang it on the backpack while hiking. It’s amazing, it stayed cold all day, no leak, no dew.
Scene 4. I made hot black tea and put into the Hydro Flask stainless-steel water bottle before going to exercise. Then 5 hours later, the tea still fogged my glasses.
(I used Hydro Flask insulated in the summer, so I don’t know if it is equally great in winter.)
Part 2. Specific Features of Hydro Flask
Hydro Flask doesn’t have the common chemicals of plastic bottles or the fragile nature of glass bottles, making it a very easy thing to love this stainless-steel water bottle.
#1 Cold/Hot Holding Time
Keep icy cold for 24 hours and piping hot for 6 hours – this is the official statement of the manufacturer. But does it really work as it says?
Solely judging from keeping the drink icy cold, it is truly unbeatable. I’ll say Hydro Flask rating 4.9 out of 5.
However, when it comes to “hot”, it may make you a bit disappointed because it only lasts for 6 hours. (Some Hydro Flask reviews mention that “it can even keep piping hot for up to 12 hours.” All I can say is that it could be possible in the summer. But on a freezing cold winter day, no way.)
In case you need to keep coffee, tea, hot chocolate, soup warm, it is obviously not a wise idea to use Hydro Flask. What you need is a coffee mug warmer.
#2 Core Technology
The technology that allows the Hydro Flask to be the leader of the “keeping the temperature of the contents” is: the double-wall vacuum insulation and leak-proof cap.
First, the double-walled, vacuum insulated TempShield Insulation is a feature shared by all Hydro Flask products. This maximizes insulation at the same time not only making the walls thinner but also making the bottles lighter than other insulated bottles.
Additionally, the leak-proof cap prevents spills and dripping of the beverage. Neither can the gas escape. Thus, your beer and cola (carbonate) would still be “alive” after a whole day, almost like you just opened the bottle.
#3 How Does Hydro Flask Work
After the beverage is poured into the bottle, the double-layer vacuum metal will block the heat transfer so that the temperature of the drink is maintained. Besides, the surface of your bottle will remain dry and not sweating. Because the powder coat prevents condensation on the bottle surface.
#4 Materials
Owing to high-quality materials, Hydro Flask water bottle is solid, odor-free, and easy-to-clean. Hence, you don’t have to worry about it could release any harmful substances.
Reviews on hydro flask material
Metal Wall: Made of 18/8 pro food grade stainless steel
Surface: The powder coat makes it easy to grip with hands. Although inevitably it would get worn as time goes by, it is more durable than other bottles.
Plastic cap: no BPA and phthalate
Hydro Flask offers a lifetime warranty: But let me make it clear. It only includes function related issues. If your complaint is that the surface coat is shedding during use, you cannot apply for refund or replacement.
#5 Cap
The Wide Mouth Flex Cap is the basic accessory included. Also, you can replace it with the popular Wide Mouth Straw Lid or Hydro Flip.
Please note that Straw Lid or Hydro Flip is not leakproof. When should you use them? Use the Flex Cap to keep the drink cold or hot, and then replace the bottle cap with a convenient Straw Lid or Hydro Flip when you drink it.
Potential trouble: the cap is not attached to the bottle. A cap cannot be attached to the bottle is easier to “disappear”!
